The New Hong Kong Restaurant was founded 56 years ago in 1954 by several ‘Ma Jie’s from Hong Kong who came to Johor Bahru to eke out a living. They started business in a coffee shop selling Wan Tan noodles and soon expanded their menu to include other Hong Kong delicacies. During the British occupation years, there were many oil tankers and ships anchored at the sea shore in front of the restaurant. As a result, there were many sailors who patronised and publicised by word of mouth the excellent food found here. Many patrons from Singapore and across the country found their way here due to the free publicity of these sailors.

新香港餐厅于1954年由几个从香港南下至新山谋生的“马姐”创办。从一家售卖云吞面的咖啡厅开始,才开业不久,菜单便增加许多香港的地道美食。 在英国殖民时期,咖啡厅前面的海港停泊着许多来自外地的货船和大大小小的船只。水手们的赞誉和口耳相传,让新香港成为了新加坡乃至各国美食饕客到新山必尝的首选。
